Incredible performances at the KAT100 Miles!

Yesterday, Friday at 20:11, after 26:11:15 hours, Stefan Schaffer from Austria arrived at the finish line at the village square in Fieberbrunn as the overjoyed winner of the KAT100 Miles over 173 kilometers and 9,996 meters of altitude. There was also a jubilant mood at the Kids Trail at the village center of Fieberbrunn.

A jubilant mood currently reigns in Fieberbrunn and along the route of Austria's longest ultra trail. On Thursday at 6 p.m. the starting signal was given for the KAT100 Miles, which is held both as the Austrian Championship and as a qualifying race for the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB). 100 miles or 173 kilometers with 9,996 vertical meters lay ahead of the 130 starters. While well-trained runners will probably need two days to do this and cross the finish line through the center of Fieberbrunn today, Saturday afternoon, the Austrian Stefan Schaffer completed the distance in just 26:11:15 hours and thus crowned himself the winner. Exhausted but visibly happy, the 43 years old ran to the finish line under the thunderous cheers of the numerous spectators at the marketplace in Fieberbrunn.

"I´m really happy now. I felt really good from the start. At night with the rain it was pretty hard, but as soon as the sun came out I felt better and better", said Schaffer. The first Ekiden (relay) and Endurance (91.5 kilometer distance with finish in Kitzbühel) were also already enthusiastically celebrated on Friday.

Just as enthusiastically as the KAT100 runners, the youngest trail runners were also cheered on. Not only were the kids frenetically cheered by their parents on the trails over 500, 1000 or 1500 meters (depending on their age), but the spectators along the entire course also celebrated the six to sixteen year olds.

Today, Saturday, the Marathon Trail as well as the Speed Trail with 24 kilometers and the newly designed Easy Trail took place. The start was again in Fieberbrunn and around 10 p.m. the last finishers of the KAT100 are expected.
