Second edition brings together 40 organisations worldwide, with 2027 activations encouraged across the weekend of 30-31 May and 1 June.
A global initiative to grow women's participation
The International Trail Running Association (ITRA) is proud to celebrate the successful second edition of Women's Trail Day, a global initiative dedicated to celebrating and supporting women in trail running worldwide.
Held between 30 May and 1 June 2026, Women's Trail Day brought together women across the world through local events, community activities and educational content designed to encourage more women to discover and enjoy the trails.
Supported by Official Initiative Partner ANTA GUANJUN, the 2nd edition of Women's Trail Day built on the success of last year’s event and involved activities on 5 continents by over 40 organizations.
Women currently represent approximately 30.5% of ITRA's global database. For ITRA, this figure is both a sign of progress and a clear call to action: trail running must continue to become more accessible, visible and welcoming for women at every level of the sport.
A global movement powered by community
Across the world, Women’s Trail Day was celebrated through group runs, community gatherings, educational events and shared experiences on the trails.
From Hong Kong and the Philippines to Serbia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Brazil, local communities organised runs, gatherings and activities designed to encourage more women to get involved in the sport.
The initiative featured free entry to a trail race for women in Portugal as well as an educational webinar exploring inclusion, representation and the experiences of women in trail running, helping to spark conversations across the global community.
Janet Ng, President of ITRA, said: "Every step we take today is paving the way for someone tomorrow to believe she belongs in trail running too. That is the spirit of Women's Trail Day: not simply a moment of celebration, but a commitment by ITRA to keep widening access, deepening belonging, and building a sport with inclusion at its heart. And we're just getting started. Together, we can help more women discover, explore, and enjoy the trails."
A flagship gathering in Chamonix
On Sunday, 31 May, ITRA hosted its flagship Women's Trail Day gathering in Chamonix, France, co-organised with Run the Alps.
The event brought together women of different ages, backgrounds and experience levels for a relaxed 7–8 km social trail run, followed by a Q&A session at Big Mountain Basecamp.
Discussions focused on representation, community and the importance of creating spaces where more women feel welcome and supported in trail running.
As a Women's Trail Day ambassador and one of the guest speakers in Chamonix, Stephanie Case reflected on the importance of leading by example and helping future generations see what is possible:
"Since becoming a mother, I am grateful for every minute I spend on the trails. I want to continue pursuing big adventures and ambitious goals so that I can show my daughter what women can achieve in the mountains and on the trails."
For Annabel Alfonso, Head of Marketing and Partnerships at Run the Alps, one of the most memorable aspects of the day was seeing women from different backgrounds and experience levels sharing the trails together:
"The thing that struck us this year was who showed up - not one type of runner, but a real mix of ages and experience levels, all running together. The energy during the run reflected it: inclusive, welcoming and genuinely excited to be there. Run the Alps is proud to support ITRA's Women's Trail Day and its work to get more women on the trails."
Women's Trail Day returns on 1 June 2027
Following the success of this year's edition, ITRA is pleased to announce that Women's Trail Day 2027 will be marked on Tuesday, 1 June 2027, with community activations encouraged across the weekend of 29-30 May and through 1 June.
Women's Trail Day is more than a single day on the calendar. It is an ongoing effort to ensure that more women feel welcome, represented and inspired to explore the trails.
ITRA will invite races, associations, clubs and community leaders to register their 2027 activations, share local stories and help create more entry points for women into trail running
