The Pyrenees Stage Run (PSR) celebrates its eighth edition from 1 to 7 September, consolidating itself as one of the most challenging trail running events on the national and international scene. Over 220 kilometres and with a cumulative positive gain of 15000m, participants will travel through some of the most impressive landscapes of the Pyrenees for seven days.
The PSR, organised by BiFree, continues with the unconditional support of TUGA Active Wear as the main sponsor and the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava - Pirineus. The three institutions are clear about it: to promote a race that not only promotes endurance sport, but also the beauty and natural diversity of this region.
The route will start in Ribes de Freser, close to Barcelona, and will follow the historic GR11 trail, crossing five emblematic natural parks and reaching Salardú, in the Val d’Aran. Runners will face a wide variety of terrain, from tracks and trails to high mountain sections.
Throughout the seven stages, teams of two or three runners must stay together, which fosters a strong spirit of camaraderie and collaboration. This dynamic makes the PSR a unique experience, where competition is mixed with mutual support and the values of sport.
PSR 2024 ROUTE:
This year's Pyrenees Stage Run (PSR) promises great emotions with a route similar to last year's, without any significant modifications. In the first stage, we start from Ribes de Freser and finish at the Sanctuary of Núria, where participants must climb the Coma de Vaca Valley to the Coll del Torreneules, to go down to Núria.
The second stage is characterised by a high mountain profile where they will have to cover 35 km with 1700m uphill, from Núria to La Masella, passing through an emblematic peak of the Pyrenees such as Puigmal and with a food station at more than 2500m altitude.
In the third stage, the start moves to Guils de Cerdanya to finish in Encamp (Andorra). In this case, to complete a distance of 39km and 2200m uphill. The fourth stage takes place entirely in Andorra, between Encamp and Arinsal. On the fifth day, the participants will leave the country of the Pyrenees, crossing the Comapedrosa, the highest point of the Principality, to descend to Tavascan, in the Pallars Sobirà.
In the sixth stage, the runners cross the Alt Pirineu Natural Park, finishing in Esterri d’Àneu. Finally, the seventh and final stage will take participants through the Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, ending in the town of Salardú, in the Val d’Aran.
GROWING FEMALE AND INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATION:
In this eighth edition, the Pyrenees Stage Run will have a record number of 137 participants who will experience this adventure first-hand, where the places were filled in just 10 days. The event will bring together runners from 19 different countries, of which 93.4% are international. The presence of athletes from Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and the United States stands out.
Female participation in the PSR 2024 rises to 38%, with 2% more than last year.
