1.500 runners at the 4th GROSSGLOCKNER ULTRA-TRAIL® - Records at most demanding trail- running competition in the eastern alps

Around 1.500 runners from 42 nations participated at the 4th edition of Grossglockner Ultra- Trail® – powered by DYNAFIT, on the most demanding trail in the eastern Alps. 344 Athletes were at the start of the ULTRA-TRAIL over 110k. 159 runners competed on the new distance over 75k and 770 athletes were at the start of the 50 and 30 k races. With five new records and top performances of international runners, the competition, which has been supported by its main sponsor DYNAFIT from the very beginning, has already occupied an important place in the trail-running scene.

The supreme discipline of 110k was won by the 31 year-old Tyrolian athlete Thomas Farbmacher (Team Salo- mon) with a sensational time of 14:25:61, 6, beating last year’s record by 38 minutes. The second place was surprisingly won by DYNAFIT trail hero André Purschke (GER) and third place by Peter Gross (AUT). The female Salomon athlete Kristin Berglund (SWE) was the first woman to cross the finish line after 17:03:15, 0. Last year’s female winner Juliette Blanchet (FRA) finished second place.

Five new records at GGUT 2018,

Records were not only broken in the 110k race, but also over 50 and 30 k. The 75k distance was run for the first time and won by athletes Hannes Namberger (GER) and Meryl Cooper (UAE). Florian Reichert broke the record on the Kalser Tauern Trail over 50k, with a time of 4:37:13,8. The Hungarian female athlete Irén Tiricz won with a  new record of 5:35:59,25.

On the Gletscherwelt Trail over 30k Christian Greidel (AUT) and DYNAFIT athlete Gerhard Schneider shared first place with a  record  of  2:49:27,1. Last year’s winner Matthias Baur (GER) finished third. The relay over 110k was again won by the trail-running stars Gediminas Grinius (LTU) and Pau Capell (ESP) with a time of 13:16:32. The Austrian team Markus Amon and Klaus Gösweiner (Team Dynafit) finished  second.  For  them  GGUT  served as a warm-up for their project “Crossing Austria”, aiming at crossing the country in only 7 days at the end of September.

GGUT organiser Hubert Resch and title sponsor DYNAFIT are enthusiastic about the fourth edition of GGUT, which was praised not only for its smooth organisation but also for the sensational race course around Austria’s highest peak by the runners. The hardest trail-running event of the eastern Alps will be celebrating its 5th anni- versary next year, at which the organiser expects up to 2000 athletes.
