The 2018 summer season is now over so it is time for trail runner enthusiasts to plan 2019. One of the highlights is undoubtedly Lavaredo Ultra Trail, which takes place from 27 to 30 June in Cortina d’Ampezzo. Pre-registration in the long race (120km with 5,800 metres of positive altitude difference) opened on 10 October last and continues until 20 October. Already in the first 24 hours 1,500 runners have pre-registered thus confirming the huge interest of runners from all over the world. The draw that will give 1,700 athletes the chance to participate in the only Italian leg of the Ultra-Trail World Tour will take place before the end of the month.
On 10 November registration for the novelty of 2019 opens: the UltraDolomites an 87 km trail with 4,600 metres of positive altitude difference starting in Auronzo di Cadore.
«The itinerant starting point, which means that the starting point is in a different village every year, is the main characteristic of the UltraDolomites - explain Simone Brogioni and Cristina Murgia, the organisers - this new formula has already been appreciated by athletes. In 2019 the race will start in Auronzo di Cadore, the village where LUT was born in 2007. Running along the Bucintoro beach, on the shores of Auronzo lake, athletes can admire the three Lavaredo peaks (Tre Cime di Lavaredo), which they will reach 15 km later».
The municipal administration of Auronzo di Cadore is also satisfied: «The municipal administration of Auronzo di Cadore was very keen on the return of Lavaredo Ultra Trail to the village of the Three Peaks - declared Mayor Tatiana Pais Becher - A big thank you to the organisers for granting our request to kick off the first edition of the UltraDolomites in Val D’Ansiei. The race, which ends in Cortina D’Ampezzo, brings together the administrations and territories of the two surrounding municipalities».
So now there are 4 races in the Dolomite event. Besides the 120 km Lavaredo Ultra Trail and the 87 km UltraDolomites, there is the 48 km Cortina Trail, which next year is on Friday instead of Saturday, and the 20 km Cortina Skyrace, which opens the long trail weekend on Thursday 27 June. Let us not forget the kids who will race along the streets of Cortina in the third edition of the Cortina Kids Race on Friday morning 28 June. These events are peppered with a host of other events organised by the event partners, first and foremost the new title sponsor La Sportiva.
