The fifth edition of Ultra Tour Monte Rosa introduces an exciting 23 km Grächen Berglauf to give runners a chance to enjoy the incredible mountain trails of Grächen and to complement its longer signature races around Monte Rosa. Open to all, the Berglauf will start at 10am on Saturday 7 September from Grächen Dorfplatz. The 23 km route takes runners on rocky high alpine trails right to the edge of the Riedgletscher. High alpine terrain is contrasted with alpine meadows and soft trails along the Wasserleitung through fragrant pine forest. Finishers will enjoy a festival atmosphere in Grächen as they join UTMR competitors completing their enormous and challenging Tour of Monte Rosa.   

The third edition 170 km mountain ultra marathon is being held in September by endurance athlete Lizzy Hawker. The Ultra Tour Monte Rosa encircles Europe’s largest mountain massif on the Swiss-Italian border on the Tour de Monte Rosa long distance trail. The non-stop ultra tour of Monte Rosa is accompanied by a stage race over four days. A sister race ‘Three Passes Ultra’ covers 100 km from Gressoney-la-Trinité to Grächen, with 6,300m of elevation change, crossing Passo Turlo and Passo Monte Moro.

 

A new ultra that ‘packs a punch’ has been launched by Lizzy Hawker, crossing three high passes on the border from Italy to Switzerland. The race starts on September 7th 2018. It’s a demanding course with 6,400m of climb crossing into thin air of almost 3000m altitude on four occasions. Starting in Gressoney-La-Trinité, competitors are treated to some of the prettiest sections of the Tour de Monte Rosa path, with the taste of authentic Italian pizza in Macugnaga and Swiss fondue at the endpoint in the Swiss mountain village of Grächen.

Grächen, Switzerland. September 10, 2017 . Endurance athlete Stone Tsang from Hong Kong won the inaugural Ultra Tour Monte Rosa, a 170 km mountain trail race on the border between Switzerland and Italy, which finished on the 9th of September.

Stabio, Switzerland. (September 4th, 2017) — With only two days before the start, ultra runners from around the globe are descending on the small alpen villages as they get ready to step to the start line of one of Europe’s premier mountain races, the magnificent Ultra Tour Monte Rosa (UTMR), 6-9 September. Offering a combination of one-day ultramarathons and multi-day stage races ranging from 116- and 170-km distances with more than 11,200 metres, the UTMR stage event traverses throughout the Italian and Swiss Alps along a high alpine trail that is tough, technical and will challenge even the most seasoned mountain runner.
