With 300 runners from 25 different countries, the CBSR stands out for its strong international presence: 80% of participants come from outside Spain.
From April 25 to 27, 2025, the 7th edition of the Costa Brava Stage Run (CBSR) will take place — a multi-day trail-running race that covers the Costa Brava from south to north over three stages. As in previous years, the event sold out more than five months in advance, confirming its status as a must-attend race on the international trail-running calendar.
With 300 runners from 25 different countries, the CBSR stands out for its strong international presence: 80% of participants come from outside Spain, with a significant number from France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, and the United States. Notably, 44% of participants are women — a figure well above the sector average, showcasing the event’s commitment to inclusivity, warmth, and top-tier organization.
The undeniable beauty of the Costa Brava’s landscape and the event’s all-encompassing quality are two key reasons why runners from all over the world return year after year. The race is structured into two formats: CBSR120K (with stages of 22km, 48km, and 50km) and CBSR80K (which shares the first stage with the longer format, followed by two 30km stages). Blanes, Tossa de Mar, Platja d’Aro, Calella de Palafrugell, l’Estartit, Roses, Cadaqués, and Colera are just some of the towns along the route, showcasing a wild, varied, and stunning Costa Brava — from the sea to cliffs and Mediterranean forests.
Beyond its sportive appeal, the CBSR is also a major sports tourism event with a significant impact on the region. BiFree Sports, the organizing company, handles lodging and meals for nearly 90% of the more than 400 people involved (runners, family, and staff) in local hotels in each stage's finish town. They also coordinate transportation of people and luggage. This effort contributes to off-season tourism and local economic activity during a transitional time of year.
BiFree Sports, based in Catalonia, was founded in 2016 and specializes in organizing multi-stage trail-running events. In addition to the CBSR, it also hosts the Pyrenees Stage Run and the Brama Stage Run — races that regularly sell out months in advance and have built a loyal community of national and international runners.
This project would not be possible without the support of our main sponsor, TUGA ACTIVE WEAR, and the “Costa Brava-Pirineu de Girona” Tourism Board, which partners with us as an institutional collaborator, adding value to an initiative that blends sport, territory, and sustainability.
